Adding a blog post in WordPress is about as easy as sending an email. Once you understand the basics you’ll be well on your way to creating your first post. Luckily WordPress makes managing websites easy and at the core of that ease is creating a page or post. Use the WordPress editor to write/create the post (no need to start in a Word Doc).

Access Your WordPress Website

Typically, in order to access your site you will visit your URL in the browser and add this to the end: /wp-admin/ For example yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/. At this point you’ll then login, if you’ve forgotten your password click “Lost your password?”. Once you’ve logged in you’ll be ready to add a new post.

Log into WordPress

Add New Post

Once within the dashboard of WordPress you’ll hover over posts in the sidebar, then click “Add New”.

This is one of the major factors in letting search engines know what the blog post is about. Also, make sure your new blog post title is written in way that’s interesting to your target audience.

Next, you’ll create your content for the page. Here you’ll typically write content and add images. If you have a WordPress website with built in shortcodes you’ll want to use them to make the content flow better and be more engaging for your readers.

Use Headers

Add headers and sub-headers appropriately (to do this you’ll highlight the text you plan on making a header, then select H2-H6). Tip: never more than one H1 on a page (the H1 will be your title).
